The year 2017 has put the German winemakers on one or the other hard test. Turbulent weather conditions caused worry lines and crop failures. The result is a vintage with small quantities, but for the higher quality!

“Light, fruity and finesse-rich” is the conclusion of the German Wine Institute’s new Riesling vintage 2017. You can convince yourself of this: our partner CAMPOS tasted dozens of Rieslings from the new vintage and put together an exclusive premiere package for our readers . These three favorites from the wine experts confirm the outstanding quality of the new vintage and offer typical Riesling stylistics for an optimal price-enjoyment ratio !

Discover the Riesling favorites

Jakob Schneider is “Newcomer of the Year 2017” in the Gault & Millau and with four grapes is already among the eight best of 400 near-winegrowers. According to the wine guide, “the estate has progressed into the first league of German Riesling producers “. Also Vinum raves with 4 stars of the “excellent price-enjoyment ratio”. The best example of this is this grandiose Riesling: juicy fruit, lively acidity, fine melting and mineral finish. All around an impressive terroir plant from the Riesling region of Nahe.

With splendor and glory

” For this we love Rheingau Riesling : fresh, fruity, mineral – with an extra portion of melt”, enthuses the head taster of VICAMPO. The Prussian Gloria Rheinstein Riesling comes from Prince of Prussia, the sister winery of the famous Reinhartshausen Castle ( four grapes at Gault & Millau), with which it shares the cellar. It smells wonderfully typical of citrus fruits, peaches and apples and seduces on the palate with juicy fruit – a treat , not only for Riesling fans!

A veteran of the wine industry

Theo Bassler is cellar master of Wachtenburg Winzer, one of the 100 best winegrowing companies in Germany (DLG), and a veteran of the wine industry. He is one of the best of his guild – when he gives his name to a Riesling, this guarantees the exceptional quality of the wine . Bassler can be particularly proud of the 2017 vintage: his ‘vom Löss’ smells delicious and delights on the palate with juicy apricot notes, animating freshness and fantastic drinking flow. An absolute Palatine original!
